Conduit Houses
Of the four conduit houses, two have recently been restored and can be found starting in a unique sequence close to the Castle in an area of land known as the Backhills which is in the ownership of the Town Council.
These were built by William Cavendish to supply water to the Castle from springs which emerge along the limestone escarpment.
The Backhills which can be found off Surprise View accessible from the High Street, are renown for spectacular panoramic views across the coal measures towards the Peak District National park.
This land is complemented by Castle Fields a landscape beneath the steep earth ramparts of Bolsover Castle. There is good public access from Castle Lane to the meadow by a recently improved footpath network.
