Major Overhaul Underway at New Bolsover Allotment Site

Maintenance work on the New Bolsover Allotment Site, located on New Station Road, commenced this week as part of a comprehensive site overhaul.

In 2022, Old Bolsover Town Council engaged a local contractor to clear the site, resulting in large piles of mixed waste requiring disposal, the small quantity of segregated asbestos located on site has been disposed of in specialist waste units. Initial vegetation clearance has also been completed, with herbicide treatments applied to manage and prevent regrowth.

Contract Awarded for Phase 2 of improvements to the New Bolsover Site

Following an evaluation of the tenders received for Phase 2 of the works the contract was awarded to NT Killingley Ltd. This revitalisation project marks a significant investment in the community, delivering substantial improvements to the New Bolsover Allotment Site

Project Phase 2: Waste Management and Site Preparation

The second phase of the project focuses on sorting and disposing of the mixed waste, with asbestos already safely removed. Key activities currently in progress include:

  • Appropriate disposal of existing waste on-site.
  • Management of all waste materials generated through ongoing work.
  • Clearance of trees and vegetation to facilitate the construction of an access road and car park.
  • Clearance of main allotment areas, excluding the rear section (to be addressed in Phase 3).
  • Transportation of stone from Oxcroft Cemetery for the construction of the road and car park.
  • Installation of an access road and car parking area.
  • Erection of a gate and perimeter fencing around the site.

Phase 2 does not include the section at the rear of the site, but encompasses the remainder of the site, incorporating a single access road leading to a new car park.

Future Plans and Site Management

This significant investment will greatly enhance the New Bolsover Allotment Site, ultimately providing up to 70 plots. Once complete, plots will be let to residents on the waiting list, and regular site visits will be implemented to ensure compliance with allotment agreements and maintain the site.
